Some tips that all Minecraft Survival/Hardcore lovers need:

Taming wolves:
     Ingredients:
          Bones
          Wolves
Right click on the wolf with bones in-hand.  Keep doing this until hearts fly out of them.  You should then see a red ring around it's neck.  Run from it to see if it follows you.  If it does, good, attack something once.  The wolf should then attack the target and kill it.
